SACRED SPACE We each create sacredness to the degree to which we each project our energy of intention (thoughts) through unconditional giving, honouring, caring or loving something. ‘Sacred space’ simply means a 'special place projected from the heart'. It can be found in our homes, a garden, anywhere in nature, our loved ones, and ourselves. We have choice to intend to create sacredness. Many people do not have a sense that they are sacred beings and therefore feel disconnected from their environment, their homes, our land, or each other, and the higher order of the cosmos. In contrast, early native people integrated 'spirits' into every aspect of their lives. If you feel disconnected, it may be important to bring your awareness back to the elements of Earth - especially to our homes. To create a sacred place, you can (or I can help you) perform a simple ceremony to solidify your intentions or wishes into it. "It then becomes a special place, a focus point for power, and to come alive with spirit. Our home can be a power point, a vortex of energy, a shining light in its own right! Homes can be designated as a place of healing and regeneration, an oasis of peace amidst turmoil, a place for renewal, hope and a sanctuary within which we can retreat and recharge during changing times. Any area which you are having difficulty with in your life will usually have a corresponding area of imbalance in your living space." (Denise Linn, 1995, Sacred Space, Random House) Creating sacred space is based on the understanding of these tenets:
Some places contain ‘negative entities’ and they can empower us to have negative emotions and cause confusion and disruptions from having a happy life. This type of negative energy is derived from the same source that created it, from human thought (of fear, hate, etc.), and should be identified for what it is, but not feared because you are just adding fuel to it. If you surround yourself in White Light and call upon the angels for protection, the ‘shadow’ will never be able to harm you. ‘Earthbounds’ can also present problems, as these are human spirits that have not left the Earthly plane by moving towards the Light. You may consider, however, to employ the services of a professional who deals in space harmonisation/clearing/blessings, be it a Reverend, Elder, Spirit Rescuer, Shaman, Space Clearer, Geomancer or Feng Shui consultant, if you feel there is something in the house you feel uncomfortable dealing with. To begin the process of creating a positive change with space clearing, it is necessary to think firstly about Intention. We all have the power to co-create our world our way (Dyer 2004). Dyer writes that “Intention is a field of energy....a higher, faster energy dimension that can be tapped into and used by everyone. This is possible because the Creator or Great Spirit began our life and all the things on our planet (and all things of the universe) with intention in mind, therefore everything in the universe has Intention built into it. From the Essene Gospel of Peace can be found the phrase “Beside the river stands the holy tree of life. There doth my father dwell, and my home is in him. The heavenly father and I are one.” The Creator is an all-encompassing energy field (or life force) of Intention and we are part of it, as with all animate and inanimate objects. We have choice to intend to create sacredness...or for our energy to go elsewhere because, where intention goes, energy flows. If an overall conscious, or subconscious, intention is to instil an uplifting energy into a home for the betterment of the occupants....so it will be (Linn 1995). Your home already has intent built into it (it already has roof and walls to protect you from the weather, and rooms for food preparation, cleansing, sleeping and family activities, etc.), so your intention may therefore be to contribute further to its purpose in a more aware way (spiritually). For example, you might like to add intention to your home/office as a place where family and visitors always experience complete love/joy/serenity/safety/freedom/prosperity, etc. Certain energies may also be contributing to a general feeling of unease, ugliness or disharmony in your life that were left over from previous occupants, which can be ‘banished’. Anything that robs us of joy is seen as having ‘negative’ energy influencing us, and the opposite to this is, of course, is the experience of feeling an uplifting or ‘positive’ effect, often experienced through our senses - sight, smell, touch, taste, hearing and intuition. The Art of Co-Creating The act of performing a Space Clearing Ceremony is to solidify your intentions in unison with Spirit (another name for loving Life-Force or Energy) so that your place becomes a wholesome and loving environment, which, in turn, creates a happy and enriched life for yourself and others. The process of creating a sacred space, in the context of my work, involves four steps..... firstly with preparation, then banishing (removing/purifying) unwanted and stagnant energies, followed by invoking (bringing in) more uplifting energies, then finally, adding a preserver/protector to keep the new energies in place. It is encouraged that all family members be involved during the process, but not necessary. To 'space-clear' and bless your house on your own, go with your intuition all the way - there are no rules with the process - your thoughts are your guide. Last Edited: July 2010 | |||
